Moving and swapping teams between groups

How to swap teams or move them to another group in the Table tab, and when the schedule needs to be regenerated.

When can you change group composition?

The organizer can change group composition on the WEB platform, in the Table tab, until the first match of a given phase is finished.

Where it works:

Tournament format

Phase I

Phase II

Group Stage (without a second stage)

✅

no Phase II

Group + Group

✅

✅

Group + Knockout

✅

❌ (bracket)

❌ Mobile app: changing group composition is not available. Changes made on the WEB are visible in the app.

⚠️ Important: Once the first match of a phase is finished, dragging in that phase is no longer available. The lock applies only to that phase. For example, while Phase I is in progress, you can still change the Phase II groups. Make composition changes before the first match of a given phase starts.

Two ways to change

🔁 1:1 swap

Two teams from different groups swap places. The group sizes do not change.

➡️ Move

A team moves to another group and is placed at the end of it. The group it leaves has one team fewer, and the target group has one team more.

How to swap teams?

  1. Go to the Table tab and select the phase in the Phase field (Phase one or Second stage group).

  2. Grab the team by its handle (the dots icon next to the name).

  3. Drag it onto a team from another group and drop it.

  4. The teams swap places.

What about the schedule? You do not need to do anything. The matches stay at the same times and on the same pitches, only the teams in them change.

How to move a team?

  1. Go to the Table tab and select the phase.

  2. Grab the team by its handle and start dragging it.

  3. A "Drop here to move the team to this group" field appears under the other groups.

  4. Drop the team in the field of the chosen group.

  5. The team appears at the end of the target group.

What about the schedule? The group sizes have changed, so the existing matches no longer fit the new composition. The warning "Group composition has changed - the schedule needs to be regenerated" appears above the groups, with a GENERATE SCHEDULE button.

Moving rules

✅ A group must have at least 3 teams. You can move a team out of a group of 4 (3 teams will remain). You cannot move a team out of a group of 3. You will see the message "A group must contain at least 3 teams." and the composition will not change.

✅ The target group has no upper limit on the number of teams.

✅ You can make several changes one after another and generate the schedule once, at the end.

Regenerating the schedule

  1. Click GENERATE SCHEDULE in the warning.

  2. In the "Regenerate schedule" window, click YES, GENERATE (NO, LEAVE closes the window without changes).

  3. Go through the wizard. It shows only the steps for the phase affected by the change:

Where the change was made

Wizard steps

What happens

Phase I, Group + Group tournament

1-4

The schedule for both phases is created from scratch

Phase II, Group + Group tournament

3-4

A new Phase II schedule is created. Phase I matches and results stay unchanged

Phase I, Group Stage or Group + Knockout

1-2

The Phase I schedule is created from scratch, and the knockout bracket adapts to the new groups

After generating, the warning disappears.

CANCEL in the wizard does not save anything. The existing matches stay, and so does the warning. If the schedule looks empty after cancelling, go to another tab and come back. The matches will be there.

💡 Tip: The warning is shown in the Table tab, in the browser where the group composition was changed. Generate the schedule right after you finish making changes, before you start the first match.

💡 Tip: The window shown before the wizard says that the current schedule will be deleted. If the change was made only in Phase II, only the Phase II schedule is deleted and created again.

Changes in Phase II (Group + Group)

Before Phase I ends, the Phase II groups contain slots (e.g. Team A1). By swapping or moving a slot, you decide which Phase II group the team from that place will join. For example, after swapping slots A1 and B3, the team that finished 1st in group A will play in the group where slot B3 was.

After moving to Phase II, the groups show team names. You can swap and move them until the first Phase II match is finished.

Knockout phase

Dragging teams is not available in the knockout bracket. The bracket is arranged automatically based on the Phase I groups.

What can you do as an organizer?

✅ Balance the level of the groups after collecting registrations

✅ Change group sizes without removing and re-adding teams

✅ Decide which Phase II group the teams from given places will join
